Hopton pools

Nestled in the peaceful Staffordshire countryside, this fishery is our premier carp water and is home to two attractive pools that cater to both relaxed day sessions and more challenging carp angling. The water holds a healthy stock of carp of all sizes, including growing numbers of doubles and several fish topping 20 lb, along with the occasional roach, perch, and bream.

Lower Pool

This pool offers consistent action thanks to its higher stocking levels and generous number of pegs.

It’s a great choice for anglers looking for regular bites, with classic baits such as boilies, maggots, sweetcorn, pellets, and meat all proving effective.

In warm weather, maggots fished tight to the margins can be irresistible to the resident carp while in winter, punchy pellets in deeper water will rarely fail to get a bite.

Float, Feeder and ledger tactics all work well here depending on your preference of style and target fish.

Upper Pool

Slightly larger but shallower, with fewer pegs and a lower stock density this pool is ideal for a more experienced angler looking for the larger fish.

Submerged snags and quieter fishing provides a more technical and rewarding challenge.

A wide range of baits work well here too, with both solid PVA bags and method feeders towards the far bank remain reliable tactics.

Night Fishing

Night fishing is available on both pools with the Hopton Night Syndicate for anglers looking to extend their session and enjoy the water at its most peaceful. The venue offers a quiet, rural setting with minimal light pollution, making overnight trips both productive and atmospheric.

  • The Lower Pool provides consistent action after dark thanks to its higher stock density. Standard daytime baits continue to work well, with boilies and pellets often producing steady bites through the night.
  • The Upper Pool rewards patient anglers with the chance of larger fish moving confidently under the cover of darkness. Quiet bankside behaviour is especially important here as well as careful placement of rigs due to the presence of snags.

All anglers must be equipped with appropriate night‑fishing gear, including bite alarms, head torches, and suitable unhooking equipment and in possession of a valid Night Syndicate membership. Please ensure you follow all site rules regarding safety, noise levels, and respectful use of the site during overnight stays.
